Miss Piggy Is Receiving a Feminist Award

Miss Piggy is receiving an award that typically honours women who were first in their fields.  Previous winners have included Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and author Toni Morrison.  Miss Piggy issued a statement saying, quote, "Moi is thrilled."

Since 2012, the Elizabeth A. Sackler Centre at the Brooklyn Museum has been giving out what it calls the "First Awards", honouring women who were first in their fields.

Recipients have included Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, "Beloved" author Toni Morrison, journalist Connie Chung, and Broadway director Julie Taymor plus a lot of important women you've never heard of.

And on June 4th, another pioneering woman will be recognized:  Miss Piggy.  And she'll be there in person to receive her award from Gloria Steinem who would no doubt FLIP if a man had come up with this idea.

Elizabeth Sackler herself says Miss Piggy embodies, quote, "spirit, determination, and grit" and has taught millions of people about overcoming obstacles.
