Sinead O’Connor Converts To Islam, Changes Name
After announcing in March this year that she had changed her name to Magda Davitt, Sinead O’Connor has announced that she has now changed it a second time following her conversion to Islam.
After originally changing her moniker to be “free of parental curses” the Irish singer has revealed she now wishes to be known only as Shuhada Davitt after declaring herself a Muslim.
The 'Nothing Compares 2 U' singer has updated her official Twitter account to reflect the change.
“This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim,”
“This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam.”
Here is my 1st attempt at singing the Azan. I got some pronouncition wrong because emotions took me from my page... but there’ll be hundreds of others onstage to come ... https://t.co/vDFyheqOOc— Shuhada’ Davitt (@MagdaDavitt77) October 19, 2018
She has also posted clips of singing the Islamic call to prayer, the Adhan, and revealing that her best friend had given her her first hijab.
Davitt also shared a new song, “Milestones”, announcing she is working on a new album, No Mud No Lotus, due for release next year.
