Bride Is Given Away By The Man Who Received Her Dad’s Heart
Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the most wonderful days of your life, but without a parent, it can be a painful reminder of what you’re missing.
For Jeni Stephen, it was a reminder that her father, who had been murdered 10 years earlier, wouldn’t be around to walk her down the aisle.
However, this story took a beautiful turn, after she met Arthur Thomas, the man who received her dad’s heart.
On the eve of her wedding day, Jeni finally met Arthur, and there was something comforting in the fact that although she had only just met him she had known his heartbeat for her whole life.
Arthur travelling from Pittsburgh to New Jersey for the ceremony, at which he was asked to escort Jeni down the aisle to her groom.
Jen wanted to have a part of her dad present on one of the most important days of her life. You crying yet? Michael Stepien was murdered in Swissvale in 2006.
Thomas had been waiting 16 years for a donor, and was on death's doorstep before he received Michael's heart.
Stepien said the family and Thomas have been writing letters, talking over the phone and sending gifts for the last 10 years.
But it was her wedding day that finally brought them all together for the first time. 'The whole family is here now,' she told CBS Pittsburgh.
'It's like everybody is here.' Just hugging him made me feel like I was close to my dad again,' Stepien's sister Michelle said.
'On this day it was perfect. It was what I needed.' When Jeni asked Arthur to escort her down the aisle, he was thrilled.
'What a greater honor could a person have than walking the daughter of the man who’s given his heart to him,' Thomas told CBS Pittsburgh.
'I can’t imagine a greater honor.'
