This Crazy Grease Theory Changes Everything
Grease is the age old story: Girl loves boy, boy loves girl. They are so different, how could it work?! Girl sings about boy, boy sings about girl, friends sing about sex, pregnancy and cars (that is really about sex), girl wears lycra, they live happily ever after. But, what if we told you the musical you love is all just a near-death dream of Sandy's? *Excuse us while we Caps Gasp* GASP!
According to theorists who want to ruin everything, the movie is a hallucination of Sandy's making. When Danny Zuko sings in Summer Nights, "I saved her life, she nearly drowned," he's hiding a crime. Sandy actually drowns and every glorious song-and-dance number is just Sandy fantasising about what could have been (if life was a spontaneous, but meticulously choreographed, musical routine).
When Sandy and Danny are driving off into the clouds (something we never dared question), it's her going off to heaven the way we all want to: in a red convertible, wrapped in leather and sitting next to a young John Travolta.
