Woman Loses Drivers Licence Riding New Adelaide e-Scooter

Two electric ‘Lime’ scooter riders have been left with a sour taste in their mouths after they were caught under the influence of alcohol in Adelaide on the weekend.

SA Police released a statement on Thursday reminding everyone that you will lose your drivers licence if you operate one of the new ‘Lime’ shared scooters while under the influence.

More: Lime e-scooters already ending up in River Torrens, according to popular Adelaide social media account.

The scooters have been introduced to the Adelaide CBD during the peak Fringe period on a trial basis. Using an app, riders are able to pick up and drop off their scooter anywhere convenient through the CBD, being charged for their time in use.

They’re pretty awesome and they seem to be getting a lot of use, however it has come at a big cost for one particular rider.

Police say that in the early hours of Sunday 24 February, a driver testing station was operating at the intersection of Port and Gaol Roads, when police saw a man and woman riding electric Lime scooters on the road.

The pair underwent separate breath tests, and both returned a positive result.

A 25-year-old man from Prospect returned a reading of 0.061. He was issued an expiation notice for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and failing to wear a helmet.

A 22-year-old woman from Glenelg returned a reading of 0.143. She was reported for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol, she was issued a six-month immediate loss of licence notice and will be summonsed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

Anyone who is considering hiring a Lime scooter is reminded that there are rules that you must comply with. Remember, to ride a Lime scooter, you must-

* be 18 years or more
* always wear a helmet
* not exceed 15 km/h
* ride with all due care, attention and reasonable consideration
* not permit another person to travel on the scooter at the same time
* only ride in backstreets or on footpaths, similar to riding a skateboard

You can be subjected to alcohol testing. Do not drink and ride, and risk losing your driver's licence.

Last week, we reported that ‘S***Adelaide’ had received multiple videos of Lime scooters being dumped in the River Torrens.
