Aussie Baby Will Need Seven Surgeries To Remove Birthmark

She’s only 7 months old, but little Ruby Ashby has already lived a big life.

Born in Wollongong with a birthmark that occurs in only one in 500,000 people, adorable little Ruby has already had more attention that children ten times her age.

The mark covers the upper right half of her face and grows hair.

It’s the result of Ruby being born with Congenital Melanocytic Nevus.

Her family has started a Go Fund Me page to raise money for Ruby’s first four surgeries; the first, which will cost $10,000 is scheduled for January 12.

They hope to have all seven surgeries done by the time she starts school.

According to a report on the Daily Mail, doctors plan to insert a silicone balloon under her skin in area not covered by the birthmark and expand it by filling the balloon with saline over time.

Doctors will eventually remove the birthmark and replace the area with new skin created from the previous procedure.

Ruby's aunt Ashleigh Morris, who started the Go Fund Me page, explains on the fundraising site: "There is a 1 in 500,000 chance to be born with it but this doesn't mean she needs to live with it!"

So far they’ve managed to raise almost $18,000.

If you want to help, feel free to visit their Go Fund Me page.
