One Of The "Budgie Nine" Has Just Collapsed In Court

Reports from inside the Malaysian courthouse where nine Australian men are currently on trial say that one of the accused has collapsed.

The incident happened just moments after of the men stepped forward to read an apology to the court, saying it was a "moment of folly".

The men were taken from the cells up into Sepang Magistrates Court on Thursday handcuffed to each other in pairs and ordered to stand.

They have spent four nights in custody at the nearby police station.

Referring to the nine offending "swimming trunks" that were brought into court as evidence, their counsel Shafee Abdullah said the men had given him "strict instructions" to offer an apology to the public within a day of their arrest.

"My clients offered without reservations to apologise to the country, the people for this folly."

He said the majority of the men volunteer as life savers.

"Stripping down or dressing down to swimming trunks comes almost second nature to them without even batting an eyelid."

After Whitworth collapsed and was helped by his co-accused Jack Walker, Mr Abdullah requested the men have their handcuffs taken off, saying it could be "dangerous".

More as we get it.
