Police Release Stats On Southern Expressway Rock Throwers

SAPOL has released some statistics on the rock-throwing incidents around the Southern Expressway in the last few weeks.

There have been a total of 30 incidents in this most recent wave.  19 involve something thrown from above the road, 8 from the side, one from the bike path and 2 are unknown.

Between 3 and 6 pm is the most common time, with a 3rd of incidents happening then, with 8 occurring between midnight and 3.

Here is the full breakdown:

3 pm – 6 pm: 10        
Midnight – 3 am: 8
9 pm - midnight: 5
6 pm - 9 pm: 4
3 am – 8 am: 2          
10 am - midday: 1

Monday is the most common day for attacks with 9, with only 1 attack reported on a Saturday.

Sunday: 5

Police want to reiterate that if you are a victim or witness to an attack, or you see anyone acting suspiciously, to stop safely as soon as possible and then call police on 13 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 so that they can respond as soon as possible.
