Salim Mehajer has been arrested overnight for allegedly breaching an apprehended violence order against his estranged wife.

9News is reporting that the controversial former Auburn deputy mayor was involved in a car crash at Kingsgrove last night.

It's believed that he was then taken to Campsie police station for questioning, accused of breaching an AVO taken out against him by Mrs Mehajer earlier this year.

The arrest comes just days after Mehajer told a Sydney court that he and his wife's separation was a ruse designed to keep Mrs Mehajer out of the spotlight and that he knew nothing of any AVOs.
