Trump To Reinstate US Military Ban On Transgender People
Just when you thought we’d have a Trump drama free week… he goes and does THIS.
President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he plans to reinstate a ban on transgender individuals from serving “in any capacity” in the US armed forces.
In a series of tweets (yes, you read that right – “tweets”), he informed the world:
After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow......— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 26, 2017
....Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming.....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 26, 2017
....victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 26, 2017
Thank you? Ugh. This is not a high school speech…
According to White House Press secretary Sarah Huckabee, the White House and the Defense Department would work together "as implementation takes place and is done so lawfully."
This ban reverses the decision that Ash Carter, the Defence secretary under Obama, made in 2016 allowing transgender people to serve.
Looks like Trump needs to hold a covfefe to explain himself.
