We are so proud of our own Meshel Laurie!

UPDATED TOTAL  : $188,384
As of 7:02AM (19/02/2016)

Meshel Laurie has had an issue that is very close to her heart and decided last week that enough was enough.

The City of Ballarat has come under the spotlight of the Royal Commission into Institutional Response to Child Abuse as an epicentre of abuse for many years.

The Cardinal of the Catholic Church, George Pell, was due to give evidence in Ballarat but is now too ill to travel. This means the alleged victims of sexual abuse will not have chance to see him to testify.

The people of Ballarat feel as though a face-to-face hearing will give them an important chance to heal and understand what happened.

Meshel's aim was to raise $55k by February 29th, when Pell is due to give evidence.

Within 24 hours, that target has been met and is now standing at well over 100k.

Meshel and her friends have been overwhelmed by the support for the campaign and want to make it clear that ''any excess cash will go to establishing a healing centre in Ballarat for victims of sexual abuse by the clergy. If the survivors are prevented from attending Pell's testimony, all the money raised will go to the healing centre.''

Tim Minchin has also showed his support for the cause by releasing a song called ''Go Home''. It is currently number one on iTunes!

Everyone who works with Meshel is extremely proud of the time and effort and the extraordinary work she has done for this campaign.
