Darren Cahill takes third player to top of world rankings
South Australian Tennis Coach Darren Cahill told Jodie & Soda he’s proud that Simona Halep has become the first female to be No.1 in the WTA world rankings.
The former US Open semi-finalist guided Lleyton Hewitt into history as the youngest season-ending world No 1 in 2001 and two years later, he helped Andre Agassi return to the top of the rankings heap as a 33-year-old — the oldest man, at the time, to do so.
He explained he’s been lucky with the tennis talent he’s been able to coach.
“You’re only as good as the horses you have and I’ve had a few great ones…
“Lleyton was the youngest whoever won and Andre was the oldest now the first female to be ranked Number 1 with Simona it’s been a great ride for sure!”
