Soda’s Guinness World Record attempt is now official!
Mark Soderstrom is now officially a Guinness World Records™ title holder after confirmation came through from Guinness themselves during the week.
About six weeks ago, Soda rode a ferris wheel for 52 hours (and 3 minutes) without sleeping.
The previous record for the longest time spent riding a fairground attraction was 51 hours and while it did appear that Soda had broken the record, nothing was official until the vision was verified by Guinness and the certificate was received from the UK.
Well, that all happened this week and so the Mix102.3 team went all out to surprise Soda and celebrate the achievement.
Soda’s breakfast show co-host Jodie Oddy made the announcement on-air, just after all the Mix102.3 staff piled into the studio, some wearing t-shirts to celebrate the achievement and others sending confetti flying into the air as the announcement was made.
He then went off on a tickertape parade of the city in the back of a convertible Mustang, thanks to Adelaide Mustangs, before returning to Mix where there was a cake and cupcakes from Heidelberg Cakes.
Jodie and Soda attempted the world record purely to help raise awareness and money for Kerry’s Final Wish. Together we raised more than $200,000 which meant the Flinders Foundation could fulfil Kerry’s vision for a Cancer Wellness Centre in Adelaide.

IT’S OFFICIAL! Soda’s certificate from @guinnessworldrecords has arrived, making him the world record holder for longest ride on a fairground attraction (52hrs)! We surprised him with t-shirts, a cake, glitter cannons and a tickertape parade through the city in an @adelaidemustang! Jodie got more congratulations on the drive for her pregnancy than Soda in his world record but never mind!
