Kaitlynn Carter has opened up her break up with Miley Cyrus, admitting that the public nature of it all made things much worse.
The 31-year-old The Hills: New Beginnings star spoke about her past relationships, including her brief romance with Miley, on The Viall Files podcast.
Kaitlynn and Miley began dating last year after both of their marriage breakdowns, with Brody Jenner and Liam Hemsworth respectively.
Following a whirlwind romance that made headlines everywhere, their breakup in September 2019 was equally as public, with Kaitlynn saying that she’s now learnt to keep her personal life much more private.
“What I’ve really realised is now with dating, I’m super private about it,” she said. “Since last fall, once that whole situation [with Miley] came to a wrap, I was like, ‘That’s the last time I’m doing a public thing.”
Kaitlynn said that her and Miley did try their best to keep their romance quiet, but things just didn’t work out that way.
“We actually did work pretty hard to keep it as private as we could, but it is what it is. It’s so hard to go through a breakup in the public eye too… It’s so rough. But there’s also a lot to be gained and learned from that,” Kaitlynn added.
The reality star admitted that she’s started seeing someone new, but she plans to keep this relationship to herself this time.
“With the person that I’ve been seeing recently, I’m trying it really slow and make sure that everything is in place,” she shared. “We’re not boyfriend/girlfriend.”
Kaitlynn also opened up about dating both men and women, saying that sometimes people do put labels on her.
“Whoever I want to date, is who I wasn’t to date,” she said. “Honestly it’s been interesting to find who I am attracted to.
“I do feel there’s this attitude when someone dates a woman one time that maybe it was just an experiment. People will put that on you… I find that pretty frustrating. I don’t thin the labels are what matters.
“A relationship with a woman is so different than a relationship with a man,” she added. “It’s a very different dynamic.”
