The pup known for her big, beautiful eyes and tongue constantly hanging out, has passed away aged 18.
Marnie the Dog, the beloved Insta famous Shih Tzu, died late last week, with her owners sharing the sad news to her 1.8 million followers over the weekend.
“It is with much grief I share the news that Marnie passed away painlessly & peacefully in my home on Thursday afternoon at the age of 18,” shared Marnie’s owner Shirley Braha alongside a photo of the pup.
Shirley adopted Marnie, known for posing with her head tilted and tongue out, from a Connecticut shelter back in 2012.
“Her comfort had been notably declining over the past few days with little hope for improvement and she let me know she had had enough. She enjoyed her chicken until the very end.”
Shirley thanked Marnie’s followers for their love over the years and said she was “grateful to the universe for entrusting me with her beautiful soul and providing me with the perfect best friend and companion”.
She also said that she was so happy to have been part of Marnie’s “unexpected journey” in inspiring other people to adopt older dogs.
“When I hear from people that Marnie has made them adopt their senior dogs it’s truly the most beautiful legacy she and I could hope to leave in this world.”
The Instagram famous pup will be buried at a pet cemetery in LA and eventually a public memorial gathering will be organised in Marnie’s memory, when it’s safe to do so amid coronavirus outbreak.
