It’ll be cheaper and more ‘magical’ than its competitors, but can Disney leverage its own iconic content in delivering a streaming service that’s better than the rest? 

For those unaware, Disney is gearing up to launch a streaming service next year, delivering shows and movies that aren’t accessible on any other service. 

Disney CEO Bob Iger refers to the upcoming platform as “the biggest priority of the company,” and is reportedly one of a “suite” of planned services for Disney. 

So, what can we expect from the upcoming streaming service? According to a report from Variety, “Disney is counting on the exclusivity factor of selected Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and Disney-branded properties to drive interest in the service.” 

The Disney classics that we all know and love are also expected to be added to the streaming platform. 

While it looks and sounds amazing, it’s important to note that it will have significantly less content than Netflix, which has over 700 originally-produced titles. Understandably, it will reportedly cost less than Netflix and Stan’s monthly streaming fees. 


While there is no official release date for Disney’s streaming service, the platform is slated to launch at the end of 2019.
