Yesterday afternoon, Channel 10 announced that Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan would not be returning to host MasterChef.

However, just hours before the news was announced, Matt spoke with Jase & PJ, where he discussed the season’s finale and what his thoughts were about calls to dismiss George from the show.

“Look, George, Gary and I work well together on TV. That call about whether they bring George back, whether Ten bring me back or Gary back — that’s solidly in Ten’s alleyway, not mine,” he said.

“Sadly, as much as I would love to be in charge of everything, I don’t get to make those decisions.”

The shock announcement was made by Channel 10 on Tuesday afternoon, citing that a commercial agreement with the judges couldn’t be reached.

“Despite months of negotiation, 10 has not been able to reach a commercial agreement that was satisfactory to Matt, Gary and George,” Network 10 chief executive officer Paul Anderson said in a statement.

“Across 11 sensational seasons, MasterChef Australia has established itself as one of the most popular and respected cooking television series around the world. For more than a decade, the iconic series has shaped and driven the Australian public’s passion for food and cooking, delivered iconic television moments, and made the culinary dreams of everyday home cooks come true.

“We would like to thank Gary, George and Matt for their contribution over the past 11 years,” he said.

A new crop of judges will head next year’s season of MasterChef.
