As the state begins to look at life after lockdowns, one Adelaide City Councillor is calling for more outdoor dining space to allow restaurants to provide for social distancing.
Cr Phillip Martin wants areas that have been allotted to alfresco dining to be expanded throughout the city and North Adelaide, as well as the closure of some streets to traffic to “celebrate the reopening of venues”.
Under current rules, alfresco dining is confined to footpaths and open to businesses with permits.
However, the restricted space on footpaths means that the expected one person per square metre rule for venues would be difficult to adhere to.
Cr. Phillip Martin will ask the city council to consider expanding the areas when the hospitality industry reopens.
The Adelaide City Council is set to meet again next Tuesday evening, with the Prime Minister expected to make an announcement on the easing of some restrictions this Friday.
