Has anyone else found that they’ve spent an unspeakable amount of money on food delivery apps in recent weeks?
We’re chalking it up to doing our bit to support the local hospitality industry (and that’s as good of an excuse as any to avoid cooking in our eyes).
But you might have also heard about the fees and commissions charged by some of the food delivery apps, with some apps taking as much as 35% from restaurants on every single order.
YourLocal is a new, Adelaide-based food delivery app that charges no commissions to restaurants, which means that you can truly support local, while avoiding cooking for another night.
Rye Smith is one of the three people behind the app and he says that the idea is all about getting behind the little guy.
“After everything that’s happened with corona, we’re all going to get back to that sense of community and sense of supporting local,” said Smith.
But it’s not just customers who are getting behind the idea, with Smith telling us that “businesses are desperate for an alternative to what’s already there.”
So far, 20 businesses are on board with the app, with plenty more lining up to be included.
“There’s a real groundswell of local support and people are shocked now that we’re actually letting people know,” Smith said of the amount of commission taken by some of the bigger food delivery apps.
Businesses can sign up for YourLocal at getyourlocal.com.au, while the app is available in the Apple and Google Play Stores.
