Schools across the Barossa Valley will close to students from today as authorities attempt to curb the spread of a cluster of coronavirus cases in the area.

With 34 total confirmed cases in the Barossa, including four cases of community transmission in the area, 35 schools, early childhood centres and out-of-school care centres will close until further notice.

People are also being urged to avoid unnecessary travel to and around the area.

Meanwhile, South Australia has recorded its smallest increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in over a week.

Yesterday, just 12 new cases were recorded across the state, with the total number of cases in SA now sitting at 299.

The news comes as the Prime Minister announced further rules and recommendations around social distancing, including limiting the number of people in public gatherings to 2, down from 10.

Four of the patients are now in intensive care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
