Health authorities are urging parents to keep their kids at home following a series of gastro outbreaks in SA childcare centres.

SA Health issued a statement this morning, asking parents to keep kids away from centres if they are unwell.

At least 17 outbreaks of the virus were recorded across the state in December last year, only four were recorded in the previous month.

SA Health is reminding both parents and families to practise good hand hygiene, avoid preparing food for 24 hours if sick, and to wipe down surfaces.

Parents are being told to be on the look out for symptoms including a mild fever, nausea and vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhoea.

A similar increase in the number of outbreaks has also been reported by other Australian states and territories.
