With Ali going through treatments and surgery since her breast cancer diagnosis several weeks ago, she has brought in Police Commissioner Grant Stevens to the breakfast show to discuss the Donate Life Week Walk and the importance of organ donation.

“I am so sorry!” Ali Clarke begins, “this is something that has become so close for you because this is after the loss of your beautiful son, Charlie”. Referencing the recent passing of Commissioner Steven’s son at Schoolies late last year.

“It is still a very tough time for us, I’m not sure when that will change. We always were advocates for organ donation, I suppose, we were quiet advocates. Never really thought about it until we were put in that situation where we had to confirm Charlie’s decision to be an organ donor” The Commissioner stated.

Ali encouraged listeners to have the conversation with their families, because if the very worst happens, then at least they’re comfortable with your decision.

“I think it’s worth pointing out” Grant said, “over 90% of people in South Australia aged between 16-19 are organ donors once they go for their Learner’s Permit. The take up is massive in South Australia. The average number of donors across Australia is 33-34%, in South Australia it’s 73%”
