With over 14 000 South Australians experiencing continence issues, we have some great news for Adelaidians who’s life would be easier with accessible toilets.

Kelly Vincent MLC from the Dignity Party announced today that the Changing Places toilets will be located in 4 metro locations: Rundle Mall, Adelaide Oval, Glenelg and the U City Development (a disability accommodation and aged care facility to be built on Franklin St later this year).

In addition, Adelaide will also get 2 portable “Marveloos“, which can be set up at functions, events and festivals around the state.

What makes these toilets accessible is that they all come with an electronic hoist for helping people on and off the toilet, as well as an adult-sized changing table with a hoist, to provide a space and support for family members and carers of those who need help.

The loos cost $1.7 million dollars, which is a bit of an insight into how much more expensive and difficult life can be if you’re not lucky enough to be at full health.

Kelly is currently looking for feedback from the disabled community on how to best utilise the spaces where the toilets will go, and you can see the full announcement here:
