They were the government-funded vouchers that had been getting a whirlwind of attention over the past week, and they went in about ninety minutes.
South Australia’s Great State Vouchers, which saw South Aussies able to get their hands on $50 and $100 accommodation vouchers for use in the state were snapped up by locals keen for a staycation.
The mad dash for vouchers, which became available online at 9am this morning, sent the South Australian Tourism Commission’s website into meltdown, with users reporting system outages as they tried to get their hands on some cheap, local travel.

Systems quickly came back online, but by 10:30am, the $4 million worth of discounts was entirely exhausted.
We don’t know how many vouchers were handed out to how many people, but those in charge of the scheme have alluded to thousands of soon-to-be travellers picking up a bargain.
The scheme was intended to last through until the end of the month.
Lucky holiday-makers have until December 11 to use their vouchers. Those who have not yet received an email are being told that they should expect to receive it sometime this morning.
