Organisers of South Australia’s biggest sporting and tourism event, the Santos Tour Down Under have confirmed that the 2021 event will go ahead.
However, it could be staged without the crowds that typically line the WorldTour event’s routes.
The 2021 Tour Down Under could be stripped off its WorldTour status, which will depend on whether the state is able to provide rapid-fire testing or reopen international borders.
If international teams are locked out or forced into quarantine, we could see the event scaled back to feature domestic cyclists only.
The Tour Down Under is reported to have brought over $63 million into the state’s economy over the past three years.
2020’s event also brought over 44,000 visitors to the state from interstate and overseas.
