Protesters have once again attacked Montefiore Hill’s monument to South Australia’s first surveyor-general Colonel William Light.

The Light’s Vision statue was tagged over night with the phrases ‘No pride in genocide’ and ‘Death to Australia’.

The statue had been painted with the latter phrase earlier this week, but had since been cleaned by the Adelaide City Council. The city’s Boer War Memorial had also been targeted.

The targeting of the statue comes following a wave of protests against historical monuments around the world.

Following the Black Lives Matter movement, protesters have toppled and defaced statues of historical figures accused of being culpable of racism and colonisation in various countries.

The attacks on historical monuments has led to US President Donald Trump threatening those toppling or vandalising statues with jailtime, while in Australia, NSW Police have been photographed guarding Sydney’s Captain Cook statue.
