The source of a rare bacterial infection that has affected babies at two Adelaide hospitals remains under investigation by health officials.

Two babies at Flinders Medical Centre and one at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital have tested positive for Serratia marcescens.

Meanwhile, several other babies tested positive to having the bug on their skin but were not considered infected.

Health authorities are now investigating whether the cases at the two hospitals are linked in any way.

The infant who returned the positive swab from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital is in a stable condition.
