Mix102.3’s Jodie & Soda Breakfast Show will officially return a week early with AFLW superstar Erin Phillips confirming she’ll join Mark “Soda” Soderstrom on-air this Monday 13 January.
Erin will be filling in for Jodie Oddy while she is on maternity leave until April but along with Soda had not been due back from holidays until Monday 20 January.
But that all changed this morning.
Soda was motivated by South Australia’s bushfire relief effort to come back to the airwaves this morning, cutting his holidays short by more than a week.
While he was on-air, he decided to call Erin and see if she’d do the same and start on Monday. Hear it all below…
“Erin, I was thinking because everything that’s going on (and) there’s a big announcement today that’s happening at Adelaide Oval so we’ve probably got a bit of work to do, I was wondering do you reckon you’d be alright to start work next Monday, a week early?” Soda asked Erin this morning.
“Yeah, absolutely, let’s do it,” came the reply from Erin. “I think it’ll be fantastic with this cricket match and all the things that are happening around this country to raise money so let’s do our part and start early.”
Erin and Soda were referring to this afternoon’s expected announcement of a special one-off cricket match to raise money for the bushfire appeal involving the Crows, the Power and the SA Cricket Association at Adelaide Oval.
The idea for the match came from Crows fan Scott, who Soda tweeted straight away to throw his support behind it.
G’day Scotty, love your idea buddy.
I will help it in any way I can.
Let’s make this happen SA!!! https://t.co/LllPQJV507

So from 6am on Monday, 13th January, the Jodie and Soda Breakfast Show with Erin Phillips will return to Mix102.3.
Soda jokingly told Erin that the advantage of starting early – including 4am wake-ups – was you get to “leave the kids and run” although it sounds like Erin might not have that ‘benefit’.
“Well Tracy said if I’m up at 4, then I can do the 4am feed so I think I’ve got two new jobs starting Monday,” Erin said.
Erin and wife Tracy Gahan are mums of three, including twins and five-month-old Drew, who arrived on 31 July last year, weighing 4.25kg.

We’ll no doubt hear plenty about how Erin and Tracy are getting on with three-year-old twins Blake and Brooklyn, and a new baby while juggling professional sport and work commitments across two countries!
But Erin sounded particularly excited to join Mix102.3 in particular “because they do a fantastic job throughout the state” and even found an omen as to why Monday would be the best day for her to start her three-month stint on-air.
“You’ve done it the 13th because that’s my (footy) jumper number, I know it, so I was already ready for the 13th, it’s an omen,” she said.
“I’ll see you Monday, everybody!”
See ya Monday, Erin and Soda!
