The bushfires that are burning in the Adelaide Hills are still under a ‘watch and act’ level this morning.

Residents across the Adelaide Hills were evacuated on Sunday night as the fire burnt out of control during changing winds and extreme heat.

The blaze started at around 4 PM at Cherry Gardens on Sunday.

Northerly winds meant it was pushed into the densely vegetated Scott Creek Conservation Park and Mt Bold Reservoir before turning towards  Echunga, Meadows and Macclesfield.

The watch and act zone goes from Stirling and Bridgewater in the north to Hahndorf and the edge of Mount Barker in the east. Kangarilla to the south and Clarendon in the west.

More than 30 firefighters are on the scene.
