Adelaide is bracing itself for some heavy winds and rain as a cold front sweeps across the state.

The city’s expected to cop the full force low pressure system at around midnight tonight, however, you should expect strong winds between 9pm tonight and 3am Wednesday morning.

Damaging winds in excess of 90kmh are expected, along with thunderstorms following, mainly around western-facing coastal areas.

The severe winds are also likely to follow through until tomorrow morning, with showers predicted for the morning and afternoon and a top of 14 degrees for the city.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning people in affected areas to move vehicles under cover or away from trees, secure loose items, keep clear of fallen power lines and stay indoors and away from windows while the conditions are severe.
