One of Adelaide’s oldest pubs, King William Street’s King’s Head Hotel has called in the liquidators after coronavirus shutdowns took its toll on the business.

The Advertiser reports that the pub is one of the first city pubs to have been forced into liquidation following the restrictions placed on licensed venues in March.

The King’s Head Hotel first opened its doors in 1876.

The business’s liquidator Daniel Lopresti from Clifton Hall told The Advertiser that he expects there to more venues to follows in the King’s Head’s footsteps.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see more hospitality businesses out there really struggling,” Mr Lopresti said, pointing out that the number of insolvencies would depend on how long restrictions stay in place.
