South Australia is looking to introduce hardship payments for casual workers who are not eligible for Federal Government payments.
Queensland, Victoria and the ACT all currently have schemes in place to help casual workers who are unable to access JobKeeper.
The Advertiser reports that state cabinet will look at the move as early as next week, although it’s understood that Treasury already supports the change.
State Treasurer Rob Lucas told The Advertiser that he will be looking at the idea this week.
“No decision has yet been taken but Treasury is looking at it, I’ll be looking at it over the next couple of days and we expect to come to a landing next week.”
Currently, only long-term casual employees are eligible to claim JobKeeper if they have lost hours.
