South Australia is set to officially pitch its bid to snap up hosting rights to some of this year’s AFL finals along with the AFL Grand Final.

At the moment, Queensland remains the favourite to host the big game, however, SA is hoping that the Oval’s new 138-room hotel will help in snaring the game.

SA will also point to its record in stopping the spread of COVID-19 as part of its pitch to be presented today.

Under current COVID-19 restrictions, Adelaide Oval’s capacity is capped at 10,000 people, however it is expected to be raised to 25,000 for the event.

It is understood that negotiations for compensation for moving the event are still taking place between the MCC, AFL and the Victorian Government.

Queensland’s record in hosting AFL team hubs throughout the season is thought to have put the Sunshine State in the box seat

The AFL Grand Final is currently scheduled to take place on October 24.
