An Adelaide cinema has announced that they will not be reopening their doors after closing months ago at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hindley Street’s GU Film House have advised that they will be permanently closing.

In a statement to followers, owners Event Cinemas advised that they will be instead focusing on their other locations at Glenelg and Marion.

Event Cinemas also announced at the end of August that the Greater Union Arndale cinemas would also not be reopening after they decided to not renew their lease.

The GU Film House on Hindley Street opened in 2016 with six screens, including a popular VMax screen.

The cinema opened on the site of the previous Greater Union cinema, which operated from 1991 to 2008.

The closure of the cinema will once again leave the city with only the Palace Nova cinemas on Rundle Street and the independent Mercury Cinema in the city’s west end.
