Organisers of Carols By Candlelight has joined the 2020 Christmas Pageant in readying itself for a very different event this year.
The Elder Park event, which has been a South Australian institution since 1944, will not go ahead in a physical format in 2020.
However, the event’s organisers are said to be exploring a virtual alternative for this year’s pre-Christmas concert.
Typically, money raised at the gate goes to supporting the Novita Children’s Services Christmas Appeal, Novita’s CEO Greg Ward said in a statement that it would not be possible to stage the event this year.
“Given the uncertainty around large public gatherings and prevailing COVID-19 restrictions, and the difficulty in managing a large crowd with appropriate social distancing measures, it is clear that it would not be possible to go ahead with Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park this year in a viable way,” Mr Ward said.
As the custodian of the event, the safety and wellbeing of the South Australian kids, families, artists, musicians, staging staff and volunteers that would usually attend Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park is our first priority.”
