The 2020 Westpac City-Bay fun run has now officially been cancelled.
The event had been tentatively scheduled to take place on 8 November after COVID-19 restrictions necessitated a move from its traditional September time slot.
However, organisers of the event have found themselves at odds with health authorities in recent weeks, with those in charge of the fun run arguing that SA Health’s crowd cap make the event unviable.
Fun run organisers had been pushing for permission to stage the race with as many as 15,000 entrants. SA Health, however, would only permit 7,000 participants in the event.
This will be the first time the fun run has been cancelled in its 48 year history.
Would-be entrants are now being encouraged to join a virtual fun run taking place over five weeks from 24 October to 30 November.
Those who have already paid for entry into the 2020 event will have their entry fees transferred to the 2021 fun run as well as this year’s virtual event.
