First Look Inside The Cancer Wellness Centre We Helped Make Possible
The Cancer Wellness Centre at Flinders Medical Centre is now officially open, and for everyone associated with Mix102.3 it marks the fulfillment of Kerry’s Final Wish.
Last year, Soda rode a ferris wheel for 52 hours, breaking a Guinness World Record, in a bid to raise money to make Kerry’s Final Wish a reality.
The initiative received incredible support from the Mix102.3 community of FOTS (Friends Of The Show), who together donated more than $230,000 to see Kerry Briggs’ idea come to fruition.
Kerry passed away from cancer in 2016 after a five-year battle with breast cancer. Before she passed, Kerry expressed a wish for people diagnosed with cancer to have somewhere they could go and receive emotional support for what they were going through.
The idea grew, via the Flinders Foundation, and its completion now means that the thousands of South Australians who are told they have cancer at Flinders every year, will be able to access support with a focus on a range of physical, educational, emotional and practical needs.
Located on the ground floor of the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer, the centre will also be a valuable conduit in connecting patients and carers with support groups and other services in the community.
