The centrepiece of the Adelaide Fringe, the Garden Of Unearthly Delights, will head to Kangaroo Island next week, thanks to a campaign from Mix102.3’s Jodie and Soda with Erin Phillips.
Some of the nation’s best and most-loved comedians will perform at the Kingscote Football Club on Monday 17 February from 5.30pm.
Tickets have now sold out for this event but more information is avaliable at www.gardenofunearthlydelights.com.au.
When tickets sold out, the following notice was posted “The tickets for The Garden Gala on KI have now sold out. There are a few key members of the KI community who are holding emergency tickets for those who have been affected by the disaster. Please get in contact with us if you would like to connect with them.”
Headlining the event will be Gold Logie winner Tom Gleeson, with a huge line-up of comic and circus talent joining him including Frank Woodley, Harley Breen, Heath Franklin’s Chopper and Nina Oyama.
The event came about from a conversation just last week between Soda and Erin Phillips on Mix102.3.
“We were having a brainstorm on-air on Friday,” Soda said on Monday morning. “We were chatting to some of our Friends Of The Show and thinking why don’t we get a whole bunch of people from Kangaroo Island, get some ferries and bring them over to the Garden of Unearthly Delights.
“We spoke to Michelle Buxton who runs the Garden, and then you said…”
“I said to Michelle, ‘why don’t we take the Garden to Kangaroo Island,” Erin recalled this morning.
“Just a simple little idea isn’t it,” Soda replied sarcastically.
“Logistically we were thinking this was impossible but everyone has worked their butts off.”
Michelle, who lost a family home and property in the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria in 2009, worked around the clock over the weekend to lock in the performers and venue.
“Every single person I rang just immediately said yes,” Michelle told Erin and Soda this morning.
“I really hope that after a long, hard summer, it means they can bring their kids, and have two hours where they take a load off, have a laugh, relax and get together with their friends.
“It’s going to be a great show that’s for sure.”
The performers have all donated their services for the event. Harley Breen even cancelled a trip to Hawaii so he could be part of it.
