With supermarkets experiencing unprecedented demand across the country, Woolworths will look to hire as many as 20,000 people as it tries to keep up.

The retailer will also look to scale up its online operations, with Aussies attempting to order their food online in massive numbers.

Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci said that they will have “more hours for existing team members and additional roles to fill.”

Banducci went on to say that the first priority will be finding work for those employees affected by the shutdowns of licensed venues.

“Our immediate hiring focus is the redeployment of our ALH team members impacted by this week’s mandatory hotel closure,” Banducci continued.

Woolies will also offer as many as 5,000 short-term jobs to Qantas employees who are currently taking leave without pay.

The majority of new roles created are expected to be on a casual basis.
