Students studying Year 12 this year will not be forced to repeat their final year of high school, according to SA’s Education Minister.
SA Education Minister John Gardner has told The Advertiser that the promise to make sure that students finish their studies this year was one of four agreed upon by the state and federal governments.
The news follows reports that Year 12s may have been forced to repeat in an unprecedented state-wide Year 13.
However, the ministers agreed that final assessments of students would be made this year, with Minister Gardner saying that the completion of year 12 students’ education was “critically important.”
A decision on whether or not SACE exams would be moved to later in the year is yet to be finalised.
South Australian schools are currently taking a week of pupil-free days before their scheduled Easter school holidays.
