Coles has been granted a special exemption from the State Government, allowing them to extend their Sunday trading weekend trading hours in the middle of the Adelaide Fringe and during the Superloop 500.
Woolworths previously made a similar request, meaning that both the Coles and Woolworths Rundle Mall stores will now trade until 7pm on Saturday February 22nd and Sunday February 23rd.
The move will seek to cater for the annual influx of tourists to the city during the hectic festival season. Last year’s Superloop 500 attracting 254,000 people over the course of the event, while the 2019 Adelaide Fringe drew just under 35,000 tourists to the state.
Although the trading hours exemption only allows for an extra 4 hours of trading in total, Treasurer Rob Lucas believes that both consumers and retailers want shops open longer.
