In the midst of absolute devastation with the NSW bushfire emergency, it looked like one couple in NSW were going to have to cancel their wedding day.
Jeremy Parton and Lucy Hutchings were due to get married at Lucy’s parents’ farm in Old Bar over the weekend when the blaze surrounded the venue.
Not only were they about to be evacuated from their ceremony location, but most of their guests and hired help weren’t able to get to them.
“We all sprinted across down to the beach, we couldn’t see in front of us because of the smoke, everyone was yelling and screaming,” Lucy said to 9 News.
“There were just flames everywhere and at that stage didn’t think we would get married.”
“I just wanted to get married to him, that’s all that mattered.” Lucy and Jeremy's dream wedding was almost derailed yesterday by bushfires but after a little help from the community, their big day was saved! #9Today pic.twitter.com/kjEraKmKXm

But despite everything working against them, the pair pushed on and found a new, ocean front location at the last moment.
Only 80 of their 180 guests were able to join them at the new location, and their celebrant and photographer had to make their way there on a tinnie.
“I just wanted to get married to him, that’s all that mattered,” she added.
The caterers were unable to make it to the location, but the champagne made it so the guests that did arrive were able to toast to the newly married couple.
