SA Premier Steven Marshall has flagged his interest in a new winter festival for Adelaide in an attempt to keep the momentum of Mad March rolling into winter.

The idea is said to be inspired by Dark Mofo, a mid-winter festival that has seen success in keeping Tasmania’s tourism numbers ticking over during an otherwise quiet time of year for the island state.

Marshall was tight-lipped on details of the proposed winter event, but said in an address to the state’s tourism industry council, that the opportunity to create more buzz over the slower months “Is a great opportunity, so watch that space”.

Pointing to the success of the Tasmanian festival, the Premier said “They created something special and they have been able to fill at time of the year that is traditionally slower”.

The news comes following the opening weekend of the Adelaide Fringe and ahead of tonight’s Garden Gala on Kangaroo Island, featuring Tom Gleeson and MC’d by Mix 102.3’s Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom.
