While the majority of the 2020 AFL season’s fixture still remains unscheduled, attention has turned to the details of the Grand Final.

This year’s Grand Final has a tentative date of October 24 this year, four weeks after its traditional slot on the last Saturday in September.

However, the late-October date poses a clash for sport fans, with the 100th running of the Cox Plate pencilled in for the same day.

The clash has brought up the idea of a night Grand Final once again, with the racing club behind the Cox Plate adamant that the AFL is the one that should move.

The Cox Plate typically runs at 5pm, while the AFL Grand Final usually starts at 2:30pm AEST.

The AFL and broadcasters reportedly have assumed that a night Grand Final would rate better on television, with AFL boss Gillon McLachlan calling an eventual move to a twilight Grand Final “inevitable.”
