Emancipation is Will Smith’s newest movie and is being regarded as a comeback for the actor after the internet-breaking slap earlier this year. But it hasn’t been without some drama with Smith saying he has been spat on by a costar.

He explained the situation on the newest episode of Red Table Talk where he was joined by his children Willow, Jaden and Trey. “It was emotionally, it was physically, it was spiritually taxing,” Smith said of filming the movie where he plays an enslaved man who escapes captivity.

The Men in Black Star said that during an improv moment on set he was spat on by a costar. “One of the first days on set, there is a scene with one of the actors and he leans down in my face and says, ‘You a cold one, ain’t you?’ and then he ad-libbed…,” Will said before doing a spitting motion. “I was like, whoa, every actor on this set was taking it really, really seriously.”

Emancipation has been released with mixed reviews but critics seem to agree that Smith’s turns in a career high performance. Although the story and themes featured in the film have been criticised. The film is streaming now on Apple TV+.
