Adelaide Fringe Festival

With February well underway, this week kicks off a mega month of the arts with the 2024 Adelaide Fringe kicking off on Friday. Running from February 16th to March 17th, The Adelaide Fringe is Australia’s Biggest Arts Festival and is the world’s second-largest annual arts festival. The festival features more than 7,000 artists from around Australia and the world.

Shows will be in full swing from Friday, as well as the major hubs at the end of Rundle Street – Gluttony and The Garden of Unearthly Delights – which both have a huge number of epic shows to enjoy this year.

In 2024 there’s a STACK of new things to check out, including an all-new precinct in the Adelaide Festival Plaza called the Pink Flamingo, and the much-hyped inflatable church is in Light Square ready for anyone to have their own Rachel and Ross moment in a fun, fake, Fringe wedding. Head along to witness the craziness, get married, or be a guest. Everyone is invited to dress up, and there are hundreds of costumes to pick from, accompanied by the chaotic Fringe energy.

Infamous the Show is another huge drawcard this year too. The global sensation (think Cirque du Soleil quality) is in Ellis Park. There will be booths and bottle service available at the show, if you want to level up your experience – or just grab a chair and enjoy!

The program at Freemasons hall is also HUGE this year, with a ridiculously amazing VR program – grab the goggles and get transported back to a 1960s rave, or one of the many other out of the box experiences on offer – brilliant if you want an experience you’ve never had before.

Sleep’s Hill Tunnel will be another major draw card for keen festival goers. Follow the hidden, abandoned tracks of the old Adelaide to Melbourne rail line to discover the immersive projections and explore the history of the tunnel from the steam train era to mushroom farm years with unique time-lapse footage and phenomenal installations.

And just like always, Rundle Street will be transformed by night time with an array of restaurants offering an extension of outdoor seating each weekend along with pop up bars for you to enjoy a Friday knock off.

Willunga Chilli Festival

If you are looking to spice up your life or give your tongue a moment it won’t forget, then the Chilli Fest Willunga is your one stop shop.

From Saturday February 17th to Sunday February 18th 2023, Chilli Fest will be the hottest (quite literally) event in town and it is quickly becoming a fast February fixture.

Whether you brave the flavours from the Fleurieu and beyond with mates, family or even on your own to try and avoid any embarrassment, more than 20 chilli stalls will be on show with growers and producers inspired by their love of chillies; selling sauces, jams, pastes, pickles, condiments, oils and more.

The extensive line-up includes a number of old faithfuls and new kids on the block such as; Choo Roo Sauces, Bali In a Jar, Grunds Gourmet, Kimchi Club and Whites Valley Jalapeños.

A huge variety of locally grown hardy and heritage chilli plants will also be available for purchase from McLaren Vale Garden Supplies and Hillside Herbs and Succulents on both days, for those who wish to try their hand and growing the delicacies themselves.

The festival will also feature cooking demonstrations and talking ‘all things chilli’ with how to’s, plus exploring the history and origins of chilli from both Australia and around the world.

There will also be a designated beer garden where explorers can ‘chill out’ and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of live music while sipping on local sangria, beer and wine such as Shift Lizard Brewing and Dog Ridge Wines (or a soft drink for the kiddies).

No one will go hungry with a mouth-watering line up of food trucks who will be offering chilli inspired tucker for everyone from meat-eaters to vegetarians to vegans thanks to El Gauco Taco Truck, All Fired Up Wood Oven Pizzas and many, many more.

For the first time, there will be a chilli condiments category that will include jams, chutneys and pastes while the classic hot sauce competition is looking to reach new zesty heights.
