Margot Robbie, fresh from her triumph with the Barbie movie last year, is gearing up to bring another beloved franchise to the silver screen: The Sims.

Following the resounding success of her adaptation of the iconic doll brand, Robbie is now set to produce a film based on one of the most popular video games in history.

The Sims, which made its debut in 2000, quickly became a global phenomenon, amassing an impressive 200 million copies sold worldwide. Renowned director Kate Herron, notable for her work on the debut season of the Marvel series Loki, is slated to helm the project. She will collaborate on the screenplay with Briony Redman.

The Sims is renowned for its immersive life simulation gameplay, allowing players to control avatars with customizable traits, skills, and relationships as they navigate daily routines like cooking meals and decorating homes.

Similar to the Barbie franchise, The Sims offers players vast creative freedom without a predetermined storyline, enabling them to fulfill their fantasies through their virtual characters.

While further details about the movie are currently under wraps, including its release date, anticipation is already brewing among fans. Interestingly, this isn’t the first attempt at bringing The Sims to the big screen. A project was initially in the works at Fox in 2007 but languished in development limbo until its cancellation in 2019 following Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

Reactions from fans have been mixed, with some expressing excitement over the prospect of a Sims movie while others remain skeptical about its feasibility.

Robbie, in a surprising revelation, shared her intention to take a step back from acting for the time being. Acknowledging her role as a producer, she humorously noted that producers don’t get breaks. She also expressed a desire to give audiences a breather from her onscreen presence, hinting at a potential hiatus from acting in the near future.

As she put it, “Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”
